Police Authorities Arrest Suspect Using “Rentangay” Scheme in Quezon City

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – A suspect using “Rentangay” scheme has been arrested by the police authorities in Quezon City.

A male victim has expressed his disappointment after the suspect nearly stole his vehicle after pretending a renter. The victim also discovered that the man is involved in an alleged “rentangay” scheme.

According to the victim, he checked the suspect’s identification card and noticed that the picture and name of the renter did not match. The culprit reportedly booked a transaction online earlier this week.

“Rentangay” Scheme

The culprit allegedly inquired about the unit and the victim agree to let the man rent the vehicle for P8, 000 for two days. However, the victim was shocked after the renter he met online did not arrive and another guy came to pick up the vehicle.

The vehicle owner brought the suspect to the guards and immediately call the police. The victim also joined an online group chat with members who have car rental businesses. He informed them that the suspect has been arrested.

The police authorities also discovered that the suspect has a standing warrant of arrest for estafa and carnapping charges. The authorities also advised the individuals involved in the car rental business to check the profile and background of renters.

However, the suspect explained that he is also a victim after he was ordered to pick up and drive the vehicle. “Nautusan lang po talaga ako para pick-up-in na magda-drive lang po talaga,” the suspect said.

The culprit expressed his willingness to help the police authorities but will face charges of estafa. The authorities also encouraged other victims to go to QCPD Station 6 in Batasan to file complaints against the suspect.
