DepEd Warns Students Against Bomb Threats and Dangerous Pranks
DepEd plans to ban students who will make bomb threats or dangerous threats from enrolling next school year.
The Department of Education has issued a strong warning to students, saying that those who make bomb threats or even treat them as jokes may lose the chance to enroll.
Under DepEd Order No. 006, Series of 2026, bomb threats are classified as third-level offenses, the highest category of student violations. The agency said these actions can create fear, disrupt classes, trigger emergency responses, and may even lead to criminal charges.
Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized the importance of taking school safety seriously. He said bomb threats, harmful pranks, and false information should never be treated as jokes because they can place students, teachers, and school personnel at risk while also affecting learning activities.
According to the guidelines, a student who commits a third-level offense for the first time may face non-readmission. It means the student will be allowed to finish the current school year but will no longer be permitted to enroll in the following academic year.
The case may also be referred to law enforcement and other government agencies when necessary.
A second offense could result in exclusion from school. Under this penalty, the student is removed from the school but may continue education through other appropriate interventions or programs.
DepEd explained that third-level offenses cover some of the most serious violations committed in schools. These include bomb threats, possession of firearms or explosives, illegal drugs, hazing, sexual assault, homicide, and other grave acts that threaten the safety of the school community.
The warning was issued after false reports about an alleged shooting incident spread online and caused panic among students and parents at Bagong Silangan High School in Quezon City. Investigators later found that a loud noise from a nearby construction site had been mistaken for gunfire.
