PNP Mobilizes 6000 Officers for High-Stakes VP Sara Duterte Proceedings
SARA DUTERTE – With the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte just around the corner, the Philippine National Police has announced the deployment of 6,000 officers to maintain peace and order.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) will deploy 6,000 police officers as part of heightened security preparations for the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte, which is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 6.
The deployment was announced by the PNP on Friday, July 3, as the agency moves to ensure peace, order, and public safety throughout the highly anticipated proceedings at the Senate. Authorities said they have already finalized a comprehensive security plan to address any possible threats and maintain stability before and during the trial.
During a press briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City, PNP spokesperson Col. Allen Rae Co assured the public that the police force is fully prepared for the event.
“A comprehensive security plan is already in place. Intelligence monitoring is ongoing to monitor any threats that there might be,” said Co.
According to the PNP, intelligence monitoring continues as part of the agency’s efforts to detect and prevent any security concerns that could disrupt the impeachment proceedings.
The police force also confirmed that it remains under a heightened alert status as authorities closely monitor the situation ahead of Monday’s trial.
“As of now, we are still on heightened alert. We will see by Monday if we will be upgrading our alert level,” the PNP spokesperson added.
Earlier, PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. emphasized that the agency is committed to ensuring that the impeachment trial is conducted in a secure and orderly environment. He stated that the PNP is prepared to work closely with the Senate and other relevant government agencies to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
“We have existing protocols for securing major government events and are prepared to coordinate closely with the Senate and other concerned agencies to ensure that the proceedings are conducted safely, peacefully, and without disruption,” said Nartatez.
The PNP chief also appealed to the public to remain calm and respect the legal process as the impeachment trial unfolds.
“We encourage everyone to remain calm, respect the rule of law, and exercise their rights responsibly and peacefully. The PNP will remain impartial and committed to protecting both public safety and constitutional freedoms.”
With thousands of police officers set to be deployed and security measures already in place, authorities aim to ensure that the impeachment trial proceeds peacefully while maintaining public order and safeguarding constitutional rights.
