Caretaker Lost His Life After Elevator Accident at a Building in Tondo, Manila
A caretaker lost his life after being trapped in an elevator accident inside a four-story building in Tondo, Manila.
On Thursday morning (July 2, 2026), the victim was inspecting a section of the elevator shaft when he was trapped in an elevator-related accident inside a four-story residential and commercial building.
Investigators said he was reportedly looking into the shaft area when the elevator suddenly moved and pinned him, causing fatal injuries. Police said the man became trapped between a wall and parts of the elevator machinery. The impact of the accident was severe, and he was declared dead at the scene.
Barangay officials identified the victim as a caretaker of the building and a native of Oriental Mindoro. Residents and workers in the area were shocked by the incident, which occurred during what appeared to be a routine inspection.
Following the accident, local authorities immediately responded to the scene and began gathering information to determine exactly how the tragedy happened. The elevator has been temporarily shut down while the investigation is ongoing.
The owner of the building has expressed willingness to cooperate with authorities throughout the investigation. The owner also offered to shoulder the funeral expenses of the victim as support for the grieving family.
“Yung mga kamag-anak, they’re from Mindoro. Yung mama niya luluwas na para mapuntahan siya at mauwi yung bangkay sa Mindoro,” Barangay 141 Chairman Leonardo San Diego said.
Meanwhile, relatives of the caretaker are expected to travel from Oriental Mindoro to Manila. Family members are making arrangements to claim his remains and bring him back home for burial.
Police continue to examine whether there were safety issues or possible lapses that may have contributed to the accident. Investigators are also looking into whether any person or party may be held responsible for what happened.
