Update on DOH COVID Vaccination for Kids 5-11 Years Old
DOH – The Department of Health surpassed its target for the 1st week of the COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11.
The vaccination of a certain age group of kids in the Philippines has started. The Health Department has given its go signal on giving a specific jab to children between 5-11 years old. There is a Pfizer vaccine with a concentration that was specifically made for the said age group.
The COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 first rolled out in Metro Manila last February 7. Initially, it was set to start last February 4 but there was a delay in the transport of the vaccine. The vaccine was rolled out in other regions outside Metro Manila after a week.
Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DOH gave an update that the target for the 1st week of the COVID vaccination for kids aged 5-11 was exceeded. More than 263,000 children between 5-11 years old received their vaccines during the first week of the national roll-out of the vaccine for kids.
Since many parents are still hesitant to get their kids vaccinated against the COVID-19, the DOH officials and employees brought with them their kids, nephews, nieces, and grandchildren who are aged 5-11 years old in a mall in Manila to have them vaccinated. The children also acknowledged that getting vaccinated is a protection for them and prepares them once the face-to-face classes will be allowed in their schools.
Based on the report, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III was also present during the pediatric vaccination and he expressed his gratitude to everyone who showed their support and took part in vaccinating more children.
According to Duque, the Vaccine Expert Panel will be reviewing the World Health Organization’s new recommendation that the gap between the two (2) vaccine doses for kids aged 5-11 will be between 4-8 weeks. More updates may be posted soon.
