Recently, the camp of former Sen. Bongbong Marcos Jr. has filed their response to the first petition against the candidacy of the former Senator. The said petition cited that the former Senator allegedly committed false material representation in his COC. The petitioners pointed out item 22 of his COC that he has not committed any offense that carries the penalty of perpetual disqualification.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the petitioners stressed that Marcos Jr. was convicted of a crime involving moral turpitude with his conviction on a tax case in 1995. In their response, the camp of the former Senator said that they “respectfully prayed that the petition be dismissed”.

They also stated that the ruling of the Court of Appeals acquitted him of non-payment of deficiency income taxes from 1982 to 1985. They also cited that the former Senator was previously elected to several positions in the government. Furthermore, they stated that Marcos Jr. fits all the five (5) qualifications for a presidential aspirant which include being a natural-born Filipino; registered voter; able to read and write; a resident of the country for at least 10 years prior to the elections; and at least 40 years old.

The camp of the former Senator is asking the Comelec for a face-to-face oral argument over the petition against his bid. He will be represented by legal counsel Estelito Mendoza.
