Facebook Inc Finally Reveals Main Cause of Recent Outage
The giant social media platform Facebook has finally revealed the main cause of the nearly six-hour outage that prevents billions of users to access the platform.
On Tuesday (October 5, 2021 – PH Time), Facebook, Instagram, Messenger and WhatsApp went offline for a couple of hours. Over 3.5 billion users in different regions all around the world failed to access the social media and messaging services.
The tech giant has also apologized to the public for the inconvenience, which causes communication breakdown to billions of users worldwide. The team immediately take actions to resolve the problem and get things back to normal.
Initially, multiple security experts pointed to a Domain Name System (DNS) problem as a possible culprit for the outage. The DNS translates website names into IP addresses, which being read by computers.
The firm also experienced difficulties fixing the issue because employees have lost their access to some of their own tools in the shutdown. The platform has already suffered from similar outages with its suite of apps in March and July 2021.
Facebook Incorporated revealed in a blog post that they have already found the root cause of the outage. The company cited the faulty configuration changes on its routers, which causes interruption.

“Our engineering teams have learned that configuration changes on the backbone routers that coordinate network traffic between our data centers caused issues that interrupted this communication,” the giant company said.
