Facebook & Instagram Users Urge to Change Passwords After System Glitch

Facebook users were advised to immediately change their passwords after the company found that it was all stored in plain text.

The social media company Facebook discovered that over hundred million passwords are stored in readable format.

The tech giant admitted of storing millions of passwords in plain text on its internal servers leaving it readable for social networking platform’s workers.

However, Pedro Canahuati, the company’s vice president of engineering, security, and privacy explained that those passwords are not visible outside Facebook.

The company also ensured the account users that no abuse has been detected due to the glitch.

“We estimate that we will notify hundreds of millions of Facebook Lite users, tens of millions of other Facebook users, and tens of thousands of Instagram users,” the company said.

The technology firm also advised Facebook and Instagram users to change passwords to keep the security of their accounts.
