Awra Briguela Speaks Up After Alleged Public Humiliation Online
AWRA BRIGUELA – TV and social media personality Awra Briguela stirred online discussions after revealing the hurtful remark allegedly made by a university professor on social media.
Awra Briguela has spoken out against a professor from the Universidad de Manila after allegedly receiving insulting and transphobic remarks on social media. The controversy quickly gained attention online after Awra publicly called out the educator over a comment made on a public post concerning the celebrity.
In the now-viral post, Awra claimed that the professor referred to her as “babaeng may burat,” a statement she strongly condemned. According to Awra, such language is unacceptable, especially coming from someone working in the field of education who is expected to demonstrate professionalism and respect toward others.

“As a professor, you are expected to uphold professionalism, respect, and basic human decency. Educators should serve as role models and create safe spaces for students, not contribute to online bullying, humiliation, and discrimination. What he did was completely unacceptable and disappointing coming from someone in a position of authority,” she said.
Awra also revealed that after sharing her experience, several individuals — including students — allegedly reached out to her privately to share their own concerns and negative experiences involving the same professor. This, according to her, made the issue even more alarming.
“What makes this even more concerning is that many people, including students, have messaged me sharing their own negative experiences and concerns regarding his behavior. This shows that this may not be an isolated incident,” said Awra.
Because of the situation, Awra said she is now considering formally reporting the matter to the administration of Universidad de Manila while also gathering statements from other individuals who may have allegedly experienced similar treatment.
“Because of this, I am now considering formally reporting the matter to the Universidad De Manila administration and gathering statements from individuals who may have also experienced inappropriate treatment from him. Accountability is important, especially for people entrusted to educate and influence students.”
The celebrity further emphasized that respect should not depend on gender identity, physical appearance, or personal beliefs.
“Everyone deserves dignity, and no professor should use their platform to publicly shame or degrade another person,” she said.

In the comment section of her post, Awra continued calling on students and other individuals who allegedly experienced “inappropriate behavior” from Professor Benjo Hernandez Contreras to come forward and share their stories privately.
“This is not about hate or revenge — this is about accountability, professionalism, and making sure that students are treated with dignity and respect,” she said.
As of writing, neither Universidad de Manila nor the professor involved has released an official statement regarding the issue.
