Sen. Pacquiao Open to Talks w/ the Opposition for Unity

PACQUIAO – Boxer-turned-senator Manny Pacquiao is open to talks with the opposition over the 2022 Election.

The filing of candidacies to the Commission on Election (COMELEC) is set to begin this October. Many incumbent politicians have already announced their political bids.

One of those who announced his intent to run for president in the 2022 Election is Sen. Manny Pacquiao. Prior to his announcement, the ruling party PDP-Laban was divided into factions – his wing and the Cusi wing. COMELEC has yet to make a decision over the internal matters of the ruling party.

As for the camp of the Senator, he is willing to run as an independent candidate in case. Another incumbent politician who announced his bid for president is Manila Mayor Isko Moreno.

Sen. Pacquiao and Mayor Isko previously had a talk with Vice President Leni Robredo. The Vice President is vocal that she is after unity for the next election.

However, the Vice President recently admitted that she is heartbroken following the announcements of Sen. Pacquiao and Mayor Isko to run for president. Meanwhile, she assured the people that she is still not surrendering in her pursuit to unite the opposition.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, despite his previous announcement, Sen. Manny Pacquiao keeps his communication lines open to the opposition. He stressed that he is also after unity for the “survival of the nation”.

“Ako po ay bukas sa mga ganitong pag-uusap lalo na kung ang layunin nito ay ang maisulong ang anumang hakbang na para sa pagkakaisa at ikabubuti ng bansa,” the boxer-turned-senator said.

Sen Pacquiao also expressed his belief that the unity ticket of 1Sambayan is truly urgent for what is at stake is the survival of the Philippines. He believes that leaders must be open-minded and must give value to the welfare of every Filipino and not for their personal intentions. He stressed that there must be unity “for the greater good”.
