LGU of Kananga Town in Leyte Declares 2-Week Pork Holiday Due to ASF

African swine fever or ASF hits the town of Kananga in Leyte and the local government has declared 2-week pork holiday.

On Wednesday (July 14, 2021), the local government unit of Kananga, Leyte declared a 2-week pork holiday after ASF hits the town. The authorities said that the announcement came after the Regional Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory in Tacloban City released the test results.

Kananga Mayor Vicente Torres has issued an executive order to depopulate hogs with 500 meter radius from Sitio Sagkahan Barangay Poblacion, which is the town wherein the infected hogs are found.

2-Week Pork Holiday

The 2-week pork holiday has been schedule from July 14 until July 28, 2021. The holiday has been declared to prevent the spread of ASF in the area. The slaughtering and selling of pork meats are prohibited during the holiday period.

Selling and distribution of frozen, raw, and cooked pork chorizo and longganiza are not allowed.

The vendors could only sell and distribute frozen pork products after presenting documents such as COMI and MIC to prove that the meat products came outside the town. Inter-barangay movement of hogs are prohibited.
