Pork Producers Urge PH Government to Declare State of Emergency Due to ASF

Pork Producers Want Philippine Government to Declare State of Emergency Due to African Swine Fever

The pork producers are urging the Philippine government to declare a state of emergency due to the African swine fever.

On Wednesday (March 10, 2021), the Pork Producers Federation of the Philippines (ProPork) said that vendors do not follow the price ceiling while hog producers have yet to receive transport subsidy from the Department of Agriculture.

“Kaya po nagkakasupply (sa Metro Manila) dahil ‘yung price cap ay hindi naman po sinusunod at hindi po pwedeng sundin dahil titigil po ang retailer, ang biyahero. Ang magbababoy po sa iba magbebenta,” ProPork vice president for Luzon Nicanor Briones said.

The Department of Agriculture has also extended the price ceiling for pork meat and chicken until April 8, 2021. The Philippine government aims to ease the inflation amid the soaring prices of pork products in the country.

National Federation of Hog Farmers president Chester Tan said that the government should lift the price ceiling to normalize the pork supply in Metro Manila.
