Island Town of Rapu-Rapu in Albay Suffers Power Outage After APEC Cuts Electricity Due to P32-M Debt
The Albay Power and Energy Corp. (APEC) cut the power supply at an island town in Albay due to its allegedly P32 million debt.
APEC institutional relations and customer head Lesley Capus announced that they have cut the supply of electricity in the island town of Rapu-Rapu, Albay due to the P32 million debt of over 1, 000 consumers since 2014.
The electric company is asking a P15 million initial payment from the island to discontinue to the cut of power supply. Unfortunately, the residents were only able to collect a maximum amount of P3 million.
“Noong 2018 pa actually nagpalabas ng warning sa kanila regarding dito at nagbigay tayo ng consideration. Kaya lang hindi na rin kaya ng APEC na abunuhan yung binibili nating kuryente sa National Power Corporation,” Capus said.
Rapu-Rapu Mayor Boy Galicia said that the absence of office in the island is one of the major reasons why the residents failed to pay their bills. He said that the firm has a payment outlet in the island it requires a service charge.
