DepEd Tentative Date for School Year 2021-2022 Opening

DEPED – The Department of Education spoke on its target date for the closing of the current school year and the opening of the school year 2021-2022.

The educational system in the Philippines is one of those greatly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. For the school year 2020-2021, classes were not able to start in June.

Usually, the class opening in the elementary and secondary levels is in June but, due to the pandemic, it was initially moved in August and then moved again in October. Furthermore, the mode of the delivery of lesson had to be modified.

Instead of the usual face-to-face classes in elementary and secondary schools, the Department of Education (DepEd) had to adapted blended learning. The lessons are delivered to the students through modules and online classes so they do not have to attend to school and gather around.

There were previous attempts to try to implement limited face-to-face classes but those were not pushed through following the emergence of new variants of COVID-19. The authorities wants to secure the safety of the students.

Recently, the Department of Education spoke on its tentative date for the opening of the school year 2021-2022. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, DepEd Undersecretary Diosdado San Antonio said that they are planning to close the current school year in July 10 and open the next school year in August 23.

With the said tentative date, the students will possibly have six (6) weeks of break between two (2) school years. It is two (2) weeks shorter compared to the break before the pandemic happened.

Furthermore, the Education Undersecretary said they are preparing for an “ideal scenario” where limited in-person classes might blend with the distance learning. Currently, they are making preparations for it and vowed that the Department would be more responsive in case distance learning continues next school year.
