DOLE to Hire 12K Contact Tracers to Work Under the “NCR Plus”

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) seeks 12,000 individuals to work as contact tracers under “NCR Plus” or enhanced community quarantine anew.

An estimated 12,000 contact tracers are needed by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to be assigned to the National Capital Region (NCR) Plus Bubble due to the looming COVID-19 case in the region.

According to the report of PNA, Rolly Francia, director of DOLE’s Information and Publication Service, said 5,000 contract tracers will be deployed in Metro Manila while 7,000 will be deployed in Bulacan, Laguna, Cavite, and Rizal.

Under DOLE’s Disadvantaged/Displaced Employment Assistance (TUPAD) Workers Program, unemployed workers can be provided with emergency employment for 10 to 30 days, depending on the job they will be asked to do.

“They will initially be hired for 10 days and then if their services are still needed, we could extend to 20 days or 30 days,” she said.

The budget for the emergency employment program is PHP18 billion under the 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA). Tutay said, “If on the national average, what we use is 400 pesos per day times 10 days, multiply it by 12,000 contact tracers, that is the amount.”
