Comelec Says Around 7 Million Voter Accounts Deleted

Over 7 Million Voter Accounts Deleted, According to Comelec

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) said that around 7 million voter accounts have been deleted for failing to participate in two consecutive elections.

On Wednesday (February 3, 2021), Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said that the agency has deactivated the accounts of over seven million voters. The accounts have been deleted due to failure to vote during the last two elections.

Guanzon said that around 700,000 individuals only were able to reactivate their accounts at the agency. She also said that some of the voters from deleted accounts might be already dead or went abroad.

“‘Yung mga nadelete na, dahil hindi nakaboto sa last two elections or nadead na or they went to other countries and changed their citizenship, mga seven million ‘yun, pero 700,000 lang ang bumalik at nagparehistro,” Guanzon said.

Rowena said that voters who skipped several elections but had intervals to non-participation have still their records in the system. The agency is expecting to have four million new voters for the next election.

Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez said that around 1.3 million voter applications are pending for the next election. The aspiring voters could still register until September 30, 2021. Meanwhile, filing of candidacy would start in October 2021.
