Several Cities in Negros Occidental Experience Massive Flooding Due to Non-Stop Rains
Several cities and municipalities in Negros Occidental experience massive flooding due to the non-stop rains since Friday (January 8, 2020).
Disaster Management Program Division head Zeaphard Caelian reported that some towns in the province of Negros Occidental experienced massive flooding due to the effects of torrential rains and severe rains.
Caelian revealed that the Negros towns affected by the flooding were Talisay, Silay, EB Magalona, Victorias, Cadiz, Sagay and Escalante. He said that the continuous rains is one of the major factors for the flooding.
The Disaster Management Program Division also found numerous obstruction along the river systems including garbage, siltation of river banks and river system, which contributes a lot to the sudden increase of water level.
“’Yung continuous rains talaga ang isang factor, plus marami rin kaming nakitang obstruction sa ating mga river system like mga garbage, siltation ng river banks and river system nakapag-contribute sa taas ng tubig sa ating area,” Caelian said.
