Assault Rifle Retrieved Near Encounter Site in Sevilla, Bohol
SEVILLA – An assault rifle was recently found in a New People’s Army-Military clash site in the municipality of Sevilla, Bohol.
According to a report from The Bohol Chronicle, the firearm was believed to be owned by the New People’s Army. It has been turned over the the Provincial Intelligence Branch (PIB).
The firearm, identified as an M4 assault rifle, was discovered in a mountainous area in Barangay Bayawahan by a citizen, who turned it over to the authorities, according to Sgt. Ricar Patac of the local Police Station.
A clash between suspected NPA rebels and the military occurred in Barangay Bayawahan in June. No one was harmed during the encounter but a self-confessed rebel surrendered to the authorities.
The said village was also where a 66-year-old Germenihelda Dologuin was slain by men who claimed to be rebels of the NPA.
Palac said that the rifle might have belonged to the NPA but it is yet to be confirmed.
“Posibli na ilaha kay didto man nakit-an dapit sa gigirahan,”
Based on the report, the cop also said that they found two magazines and 40 live rounds in the area.
The probe regarding the murder of Dologuin, which occurred in December 19, was still ongoing, based on the report.
Initial probe shows that Dologuin was forced out of her home in the area and was shot to death near a basketball court in the village.
