Basilica Assures Much-Awaited Event Sinulog 2021 Will Push Through
SINULOG 2021 – Augustinian friars said the much-awaited Sinulog will push through in 2021.
The Sinulog Festival is one of the grandest and largest festivals in the Philippines. Lots of people are wondering if the much-awaited event in Cebu will push through next year.
The festival is held every 3rd Sunday of January to honor the Child Jesus. The event is done by a dance ritual and tells the Pinoy’s pagan past and acceptance of Christianity.
The OSA manages and runs the centuries-old Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu. The church is located in downtown Cebu City.
In an online briefing for the 500 Years of Christianity of the Archdiocese of Cebu last Saturday, September 26, 2020, OSA priests assured the public that Sinulog Festival will push through in 2021. They are the lead organizers of the annual celebration.

Based on a report from Cebu Daily News, Fr. Ric Anthony Reyes, OSA said they are cooperating with the LGUs for the event next year. He said their preparations remained as plan but nothing has been declared official yet.
“We’re still finalizing everything so we cannot say if some of these are official. But definitely, it (Sinulog 2021) will push through,” he said in Cebuano.
According to the report, the Augustinian friars are planning to modify the event to ensure the minimum health standards and physical distancing will be observed.
“One thing certain is that we will be having equivalent celebrations on what we usually do. This means that our devotees can expect several adjustments made for next year…”
“We have to consider that the risk (of getting the coronavirus disease 2019) is still there and that health protocols should not be sacrificed during the celebrations,” he added.
Last August, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella said Sinulog 2021 will push through if they will win the war against the COVID-19 pandemic. “Yes, there will be Sinulog 2021 if things normalize,” he said.
