SINULOG 2021 – Video showing a glimpse of Cebu City’s post-pandemic Sinulog Festival is making rounds online.

The 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused many events, festivals, and performances around the world to be canceled or postponed. Sinulog is one of the Philippine’s grandest and largest festivals. Surely, lots of people are wondering if the celebration will push through next year.

Sinulog Festival is held every 3rd Sunday of January in honor of Señor Santo Niño. Millions of people crowd the streets in Cebu to watch street dance.

On Sunday, August 30, Cebu City Mayor Edgardo Labella confirmed that Sinulog 2021 will push through if “things normalize.” Based on a report from Cebu Daily News, Labella was referring to the city government’s effort to win the war against COVID-19.

The mayor expressed optimism that the health crisis will end in the coming months. “Yes, there will be Sinulog 2021 if things normalize,” he said.

According to the report, Mayor Labella said he already asked other officials of the Sunulog Foundation Inc. (SFI) to create innovation to make sure that the celebration will be safe for the tourist and residents in the city.

The video showing a glimpse of Cebu City’s post-pandemic Sinulog is making rounds online. The video titled “Break the Chain: The Arts Respond to COVID-19, An Awareness Campaign” was directed by Junjet Primo Jr.

“As we celebrate the 500 Years of Christianity in the Philippines next year, get ready for the new normal of the grandest and the only religious festival in the country recognized by the Vatican City – SINULOG 2021!”
