Python Injured After Being Slashed by a Resident Out of Fear
A reticulated python was safely rescued in Valenzuela City after suffering a serious injury when a resident allegedly struck the snake out of fear.
The authorities received a report about a python that had been found injured near a residential area in Barangay Bagbaguin. According to information from the Valenzuela City Veterinary Services Office, the snake was seen emerging from a house in the area.
One resident became frightened after seeing the large snake and attacked it with a bladed weapon. The python lost a portion of its tail and suffered severe injuries. The reptile survived and was later rescued through the efforts of local authorities.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources Metropolitan Environmental Office–North quickly responded after receiving the report. Working together with the city veterinary office, responders safely recovered the injured snake and ensured that it was properly handled
After the rescue, the python was brought to the DENR office for documentation before being transferred to the Wildlife Rescue Center under the Biodiversity Management Bureau. There, wildlife experts conducted a veterinary assessment and immediately provided treatment and rehabilitation.
Initial findings revealed that the injury caused permanent damage to the snake’s body. Experts said the loss of its tail may affect some of its normal bodily functions, including waste elimination and reproduction.
The snake will require continued monitoring and specialized care.
The reticulated python is a native wildlife species in the Philippines and plays an important role in maintaining ecological balance. It helps control populations of rats and other small animals, making it beneficial to both natural habitats and communities.
Authorities reminded the public that wildlife should not be harmed during encounters. Instead, residents are encouraged to contact the DENR, local veterinary offices, barangay officials, or other concerned agencies for assistance.
