Leni Robredo Reacts To DENR’s White Sand Project In Manila Bay

Vice President Expresses Opinion About Manila Bay’s White Sand

LENI ROBREDO – Vice President Leni Robredo reacted to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) white sand project at Manila Bay.

The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) recently announced that they will fill Manila Bay’s shore with white sand. DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said the white sand they used is made of crushed dolomite from Cebu.

Antiporda said the department’s latest project will discourage people from littering the area. But groups warned that putting white sand is harmful to Manila Bay.

Vice President Leni Robredo said DENR’s project is a misplaced priority by the governments, especially during this COVID-19 pandemic. She said that during her weekly radio show.

The lady official called out the administration for spending P349 million for Manila Bay’s project when they had repeatedly confessed that lack of funds for coronavirus respose.

“Napaka-insensitive na gagawin mo ‘yan sa height ng pandemic na ang daming nagugutom, ang daming naghihirap…”

“Sa panahon ngayon na ang sagot sa atin wala tayong pera, nakakainsulto kapag nakikita ng tao ‘yung ganitong programa,” she added.

During their program, Leni Robredo suggested giving each of the 10 million poorest Pinoy families P5,000 to help them cope during the health crisis. She said the money used for the white sand project could have been better spent to help the families in need.

She also reacted to Harry Roque’s statement about the white sand beach at Manila Bay. She said, “Iyong makatulong sa mental health ng tao, tapusin na ang pandemya. Gawin natin ‘yng lahat para bumalik na tayo sa normal.”
