Motorcycle Rider Arrested in Rizal After Stolen Cellphone Tracked From Quezon City
A motorcycle rider who allegedly stole a cellphone in Quezon City was arrested in Rizal after authorities tracked the device using a mobile tracking application.
The incident started when a victim was reportedly resting inside a vehicle with the window partially open. Based on footage reviewed by authorities, the suspect was seen approaching the passenger side of the vehicle before moving toward the driver’s side window.
After a few moments, he quickly grabbed the victim’s cellphone and fled from the scene on a motorcycle.
Police said the victim immediately realized what had happened and attempted to chase the suspect. However, the rider managed to escape because he was already on a motorcycle and quickly sped away.
Despite the theft, the victim was able to use the phone’s tracking feature, which helped authorities locate the suspect. The investigation eventually led police to Rizal, where the rider was arrested.
During questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement in the crime. Authorities were also able to recover the stolen cellphone from his possession. In addition, the motorcycle allegedly used during the theft was confiscated as part of the investigation.
According to police, the suspect claimed that he was tempted to take the cellphone and intended to use it for work. His admission became part of the evidence gathered by investigators handling the case.
“Ginawa ko po, ako po ‘yung nagnakaw. Natukso lang po ako… parang naakit lang ako kuhanin ‘yung cellphone… gagamitin ko sa trabaho,” the suspect said.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect had previously been jailed for a case involving a violation of the Violence Against Women and Their Children Act. Authorities noted this information while conducting a background check.
The suspect is currently under police custody and is facing new charges related to theft. He is also facing a complaint for allegedly violating Republic Act 11235, also known as the Motorcycle Crime Prevention Act.
