Manila Baywalk White Sand: Roque Defends DENR’s Project

Harry Roque Defends DENR’s Manila Baywalk White Sand Project

MANILA BAYWALK – Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque defends the Manila Baywalk white sand project of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The DENR plans to fill Manila Bay’s shore with white sand. They said the P349 million project is part of the Manila Bay Rehabilitation Program.

DENR Undersecretary Benny Antiporda said their latest project will discourage people from littering in the area. “If you will look at it, this is also a sort of awareness to all the people, na alam naman natin na ang tao kapag may kulay puti ay ayaw natin marumihan ito,” he said.

Antiporda also said the white sand they used is made of crushed dolomite from Cebu. He urged groups who criticized their project to conduct a study first before expressing opinions.

Senators have expressed mixed views on DENR’s white sand project in Manila Bay. Sen. Joel Villanueva echoed the public’s criticisms while Sen. Panfilo Lacson hoped that they conducted lots of research and consultation before pushing the program.
