Catriona Gray highlights diversity
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray shared her thoughts on the controversial post by two Filipino-American male pageant titleholders, Brandon Espiritu and Jether Palomo, which seemed to belittle the Philippines and Filipinos.
Netizens have slammed the two male pageant personalities for their post, which seemed to insult pure Filipinos and showed more love for their American heritage than the Filipino culture.
This did not sit well with several beauty queens and male pageant title holders.
The famous and admired beauty queen, as a Filipino with Australian blood, did not avoid giving her thoughts regarding this matter.
“Ang daming iba’t ibang klaseng Pinoy — mula sa iba’t ibang probinsya, halfsies, hanggang 2nd, 3rd, or 4th generation Filipinos — who are making an incredible impact in their industries and positively contributing to our nation. Sila ang mas deserving ng platform kaysa iba diyan,” Catriona Gray shared in her message on her Instagram broadcast channel, which she also shared on her IG Story.
She also stressed in her post that those who are consistent and truly love the country deserve more of a chance, which is shown in their actions and not just in words.
“Let’s give a platform (pageantry or otherwise) to people who truly deserve it. To those whose love for country extends beyond a momentary spotlight; those whose pagmamahal sa bayan is more than just lip service, but is reflected in their consistent actions, character and values,” the fourth Pinay Miss Universe stressed.
Meanwhile, Catriona Gray was asked in an interview last month about the status of her love life since she is now being linked to Douglas Charles. Their photos taken during various instances have circulated online. The beauty queen did not directly confirm their relationship, but she stressed that she is happy right now.
