Letter of Bacolod City Doctors Appealing for 2-Week MECQ Amid Rising Cases of COVID-19

BACOLOD CITY DOCTORS – Several medical professionals united in the appeal for a 2-week Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Undeniably, the total COVID-19 cases in the Philippines got big jumps daily for several days now. According to the Department of Health (DOH), they have already recorded 178,022 cases of the disease in the country.

As of this writing, the coronavirus death toll is 2,883 while the recoveries have reached 114,114. The wearing of a face mask and social distancing are among the protocols implemented to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Several cities in Metro Manila have downgraded from Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) to General Community Quarantine (GCQ). There are still limitations like on the capacity allowed for business establishments and church gatherings.

Bacolod City is one of the cities that confirmed cases of COVID-19. Based on a report of Aksyon Radyo Bacolod, the city has already recorded 613 coronavirus cases.

Out of the said total number, 247 patients have already recovered while 15 died of the disease. The active cases now are at 351.

According to the report, Bacolod City doctors are appealing once again for a stricter community quarantine measure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The medical professionals are asking the government for a 2-week MECQ as a breather.

The Bacolod City doctors stressed in their letter that a 2-week “timeout” can help save many lives amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia is set to have a virtual meeting with the doctors and other city officials and authorities today.
