Bishop Reacts To Capacity Allowed For Church, Restaurants in GCQ Areas

Bishop on Capacity Allowed for Church in GCQ Areas: “Parang ‘di naman tama”

BISHOP – Catholic priest Fr. Broderick Pabillo reacted to the capacity allowed for church and restaurants in areas under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

The Philippines’ fight against COVID-19 is not yet over. Unfortunately, in the last recent days, at least 3,000 cases of coronavirus add to the total count daily.

The recent huge increases brought the total COVID-19 cases recorded in the country to 173,774 as of this writing. According to the Department of Health (DOH), out of the said number, 2,795 deaths and 113,481 recoveries were recorded.

In the pursuit to curb the spread of the coronavirus in the country, community quarantine measures are implemented and as well as certain protocols. The wearing of a face mask and social distancing are among the protocols.

Also, the people are advised to avoid gatherings amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, churches are now allowed to hold masses and business establishments may now operate.

However, there are differences depending on the community quarantine measures in a certain place and the capacity allowed by the government.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, a bishop reacted to the capacity allowed for gatherings in churches and in business establishments like restaurants in areas under the General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

According to Apostolic Administrator of the Archdiocese of Manila Bishop Broderick Pabillo, the church must also be given the same capacity allowed to business enterprises. He finds the capacity allowed by the government as not logical.

“Parang ‘di naman tama na bibigyan mo ng 30 percent ang mga restaurant, tapos sa simbahan 10 tao lang. Mas malaki naman yung simbahan kesa sa restaurant,” Pabillo said based on the report.

Salons and barbershops are now allowed to operate except for full-body massages. Dine-in services are now allowed in restaurants as well.
