Quarantine measures are still up in the Philippines now as the COVID-19 fight is not yet over. Every day, there are still fresh cases of this disease that has claimed over half a million lives across the globe.

Recently. Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte decided on the quarantine measure to be implemented in Metro Manila starting July 16. It was observing a General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting June 1 to 15.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, Pres. Duterte initially agreed to place Metro Manila under a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine (MECQ) as suggested by the health experts. It was after the rise on the COVID-19 cases in the different areas.

However, the officials of the local governments in Metro Manila appealed to the President. According to the report, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that the President approved the call of the LGUs for the extension of the General Community Quarantine (GCQ) starting July 16.

According to Roque, the GCQ will be extended in Metro Manila for two (2) weeks. However, if the spread of COVID-19 will not be slowed down within two (2) weeks, there is a possibility that the GCQ will be replaced by the MECQ.
