Undeniably, the COVID-19 pandemic is really a huge challenge to the healthcare of each affected country. In PH, one of the most prominent and the biggest hospitals is currently accommodating a lot of coronavirus patients that its ICU is full now.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the St. Luke’s ICU beds for COVID-19 patients are all occupied. According to the hospital’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Benjamin Campomanes, the 18 ICU beds in the branch in Taguig are all occupied.

According to the report, 11 St. Luke’s ICU beds in the hospital’s branch in Quezon City are all occupied as well. They have already turned their emergency rooms to “transitory ICUs” for those who are monitored for the possibility of COVID-19 infection.

Not only the ICUs of St. Luke’s are on a huge challenge. They are currently short of manpower as some healthcare workers are on quarantine after contracting the disease.

According to Dr. Campomanes, due to the shortage of hospital staff, doctors are taking over the duties of nurses now. They cannot open other ward section due to the manpower shortage.
