Antique Santo Niño Reported Missing After Fire Hits Pandacan Parish
PANDACAN PARISH – An antique santo niño is reportedly missing after a one-hour long fire hits Pandacan Parish in Manila.
On Friday (July 10, 2020), the Santo Niño de Pandacan parish church in Pandacan, Manila has been struck by fire, which reached third alarm. The devastating blaze has been contained around 2:15 pm.
The fire burned the parish causing a lot of damage inside the establishment. The images of saints got burned and the altar collapsed. The skin of the Nazarene image was also peeled off due to the fire.
The Bureau of Fire Protection are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire. The Parish priest was outside while the staff were on a break when the fire broke out.
However, the authorities also investigating the 400-year-old image of Sto. Niño to find out whether it was consumed by fire or stolen by someone after the incident. Fire marshal Sr. Supt. Gerrandie Agonos, Manila fire marshal said that the statue might have already been reduced to ashes because it was made of wood.

“Yung image ay gawa sa kahoy kaya maaring kasama na ito sa natupok sa sunog” Agonos said.
One witness also claimed that the firefighters attempted to save the statue but the fire quickly spread throughout the building.
