Priests in 2 Manila Churches Tested Positive for COVID-19

MANILA CHURCHES – Two (2) churches in Malate and Quiapo are under a lockdown now after priests tested positive for COVID-19.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a huge challenge that over 200 countries and territories across the globe are facing now. It has claimed more than half a million lives in different nations.

The said disease was first recorded in China. It lodged an outbreak in Wuhan City last December 2019 which prompted the authorities to lock the city for over two (2) months.

However, starting January 2020, several nations outside China started recording their first cases of coronavirus. The first death case outside China was recorded in the Philippines.

Currently, the Philippines has recorded a total of 36,438 cases of COVID-19. Out of the total number, the death toll is at 1,255 while the total recoveries is at 9,956 now.

The entire nation is under a community quarantine now. Cebu City was returned to Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) while Metro Manila and several other areas are under a General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

Recently, two (2) Manila churches are placed under a lockdown. It was after the priests tested positive for COVID-19.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the said Manila churches that are under a lockdown now following priests testing positive for COVID-19 are in Malate and in Quiapo. In Santisima Parish in Malate, Fr. Jojo Buenafe and a staff member tested positive for COVID-19.

The priest is quarantined in a room in the convent while the staff is being treated in the hospital now. According to the report, the priest is asymptomatic.

With regards to the locking down of a church in Quiapo, Fr. Douglas Badong said that the priest who tested positive for COVID-19 is a visiting priest in the parish. He stayed in a parish from March until June because of the lockdown.

The said priest has already returned to Mindanao and it was only then when it was found out that he is positive for coronavirus. The church will be under a lockdown until July 4 although Fr. Badong and the staff already tested negative in coronavirus rapid test.
