Couple Lost Their Lives After Being Electrocuted in Their Piggery
A couple tragically lost their lives after they were electrocuted while attending to work at their piggery in Lian, Batangas.
On Friday (August 14, 2026), an accident claimed the lives of a husband and wife after they were electrocuted at their piggery. The incident happened in Sitio Mahabang Parang, Barangay Malaruhatan, where the couple was reportedly attending to work around their piggery when the accident occurred.
According to the Lian Municipal Police Station, 60-year-old Clemente Mendoza was the first to be electrocuted. Initial reports showed that he was fixing an electrical wire in the piggery when he accidentally came into contact with a live wire.

Seeing her husband in danger, 59-year-old Lorena Mendoza immediately tried to help him. However, she was also electrocuted after coming into contact with the same electrical source.
The incident quickly alarmed nearby residents, who sought help from local authorities. Responders from the Lian Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office immediately rushed to the area and brought the couple to Apacible Memorial District Hospital for emergency treatment.
Despite the efforts of rescuers and medical personnel, both Clemente and Lorena were declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. The sudden loss left their family, friends, and neighbors in shock and mourning.

Following the incident, authorities immediately coordinated with the Batangas Electric Cooperative (BATELEC) to address the hazardous electrical connection. Linemen were dispatched to secure the live wire and ensure that no one else would be exposed to danger.
Local officials continue to remind residents to exercise caution when handling electrical systems and to seek professional assistance whenever possible. They also encourage communities to report damaged electrical lines immediately to prevent similar accidents.
