DepEd Says Physical Enrollment Will Be Allowed In Public Schools
DEPED – Department of Education (DepEd) Undersecretary Nepomuceno Malamunan said physical enrollment will be allowed in public schools.
The Philippine government immediately suspend classes in all public and private schools amid the rise of COVID-19 cases in the country. The disease has infected thousands of people in the country.
The Department of Education (DepEd) previously announced that classes will start on August 24. In a report, Malacañang Palace spokesperson Harry Roque announced the enrollment for public schools begins on June 1.
DepEd told the parents not to go to school for the enrollment of their children. Education Undersecretary and spokesman Atty. Nepomuceno Malaluan said they just have to wait for the call.
“Do not go to school on June 1…Wait for the call. On Monday they do not need to go to schools. They will wait in their homes,” he said.

Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, Nepomuceno Malaluan said they have allowed face-to-face enrollment in public schools starting this week. At the same time, schools will also conduct remote enrollment.
“Face to face will be allowed starting June 16, but remote will go on simultaneously,” he said.
According to the report, Nepomuceno Malaluan said that the Department of Education does not have a specific target for this school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He explained that they are “using last year’s enrollment as [a] benchmark or comparator, to gauge how many decided to proceed or opt-out of this SY.”
The Department of Education complied with the directive of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to postpone face-to-face classes until coronavirus vaccine is available. Therefore, the distance education system will be a major component of learning delivery this year.
