The General Community Quarantine (GCQ) is implemented in the other areas in the Philippines not mentioned above. Everyone is reminded to wear mask when going outdoors and to go out only for essential purposes.

However, unexpected scenarios took place under the GCQ implementation. Photos of people crowding the streets, public places, and shopping malls crossed the social media.

A lung center doctor reacted to crowded shopping malls and public places amid the COVID-19 crisis in the Philippines. Based on a report on ABS-CBN, Dr. Antonio Ramos expressed his belief that the authorities wanted to be on top of the situation and the people to wear mask but there were really a lot of people.

“I’m sure gusto ng mga awtoridad ng ‘yong nakamask, ‘yong two meters na distancing pero sa dami ng tao sa tingin hindi talaga nila kinaya eh na gawing ‘yon,” Dr. Ramos said according to the report.

Following the people crowding the shopping malls, the lung center doctor expressed that they are preparing the hospitals now. Citing the study, the doctor said five (5) out of 100 people are carriers of the coronavirus.

Dr. Ramos said they expect that starting May 21, five (5) days since the “community interaction and transmission”, the number of people going for a check-up will increase. They also expect an increase on the number of admission and deaths on the next days.

The doctor acknowledged that the purpose of going out may be very essential. However, as to him, it must be weighed along with the value of the safety of the family you are going home to.
