Albuera, Leyte Barangay Chairman Shot SAP Beneficiary

BARANGAY CHAIRMAN – Albuera, Leyte Barangay chairman shot a Social Amelioration Program (SAP) beneficiary who was just signing a form.

Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte released billions from government funds to help the country fight against the 2019 novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. He even said that he will probably sell some government’s assets to save the lives of the Filipino people.

The 75-year-old chief executive ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) subsidy to low-income families. However, the agency had some problems in distributing cash aid.

Several Barangays have violated the social distancing rules while lining up to claim their cash aids from the government. Countless netizens aired their reaction after seeing the viral pictures of the people violating the social distancing measures.

Aside from that, people also have issues regarding the process of selecting SAP beneficiaries. To address the problem, DSWD posted the complete list of beneficiaries on their website.

Recently, a male SAP beneficiary in Albuera, Leyte was shot dead by a barangay captain. Based on a report from GMA News, the victim named Paulito Patonog was just signing up a form when the chairman Andres Cruz fired his gun in front of other beneficiaries.

The cops immediately arrested the barangay chairman. Cruz justified that the SAP beneficiary seemed to have bad intentions towards him so he shot him.

The family of the SAP beneficiary strongly condemn the shooting incident. According to the report, almost all of the beneficiaries in their barangay haven’t received the cash aid yet.
