Flood Control Scam Hearing Resumes June 4 as Senators Push Urgent Investigation
FLOOD CONTROL SCAM – Lawmakers are preparing to continue the high-profile probe into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.
Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano announced that the Senate investigation into the alleged flood control scam will continue on June 4, as lawmakers push to move forward with one of the chamber’s priority issues before the adjournment of the 20th Congress.
In a Facebook Live session, Cayetano revealed that Rodante Marcoleta has been assigned to issue the official notices on Monday, June 1, for the continuation of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing scheduled for Thursday.
“We finished a caucus over lunch, and we agree subject to some minor discussion… that a subcommittee will be formed for the flood control, and Senator Marcoleta will issue the notices on Monday to continue on sa Thursday the flood control scam hearings,” he said in his Facebook live.
Marcoleta currently serves as the vice chairperson of the Blue Ribbon Committee, which has been conducting hearings regarding the controversial flood control projects allegedly linked to irregularities and misuse of public funds.
According to Cayetano, the flood control investigation is among the three major concerns that senators intend to prioritize in the coming days. The other key matters include issues related to the country’s economic crisis and the impeachment case involving Vice President Sara Duterte.
The probe had previously stalled after former Blue Ribbon Committee chairperson Panfilo Lacson suspended additional hearings in April. Lacson explained that the committee first needed at least nine signatures from its members to formally sponsor and present the partial report on the alleged scandal.
Earlier this month, Lacson disclosed that seven senators had already signed the report. Among those who reportedly supported the document were Vicente Sotto III, Bam Aquino, Risa Hontiveros, Erwin Tulfo, and Kiko Pangilinan.
Lacson also warned that if the panel fails to obtain the required number of signatures before Congress adjourns sine die on June 5, 2026, the partial report on the flood control controversy may eventually be archived, potentially delaying further action on the matter.
