Roque Stands By Statement Says Philippines Always Followed One China Policy

PHILIPPINES ALWAYS FOLLOWED CHINA – Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque received flack from Taiwan after saying the country is a part of China.

For a long time now, Taiwan had struggled to find independence from China. They consider themselves as a sovereign and independent country from China. But, like most China supporters, Roque follows the “One China Policy”.

However, Roque stood firm on his stand even amid strong dissatisfaction from Taiwan’s government. Furthermore, Roque emphasized that the Philippines had always followed the “One-China Policy”.

This policy considers Taiwan as part of the People’s Republic of China. However, Taiwan had strongly opposed this and have long fought for its sovereignty and independence.

The issue started when Roque stated that he would leave the deportation issue to Taiwan and China. Afterward, he stated that “Taiwan is a part of China”.

Following some harsh criticism towards the Philippine government, an OFW was in fear of being deported.

However, Taipei had rejected the request and said the country is a free and democratic society that protects freedom of speech. Moreover, they slammed Roque for his statements.
