DPWH Chief Says INC’s Philippine Arena As COVID-19 Hospital Is Almost Ready
INC – Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said Iglesia Ni Cristo’s Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan is almost ready.
The Philippines needs lots of coronavirus facilities to treat patients. Owners of big facilities in Luzon allowed the government to convert their stadiums into COVID-19 hospitals.
Among the stadiums that transformed into a facility for COVID-19 patients are Rizal Coliseum, the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, and Amoranto Stadium. In a previous article, Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) also permitted the government to use the world’s largest indoor arena to help address overcrowding in hospitals.
INC’s Philippine arena will hold mild COVID-19 patients. The facility in Bocaue, Bulacan could accommodate 300 healthcare workers and 300 patients.
Based on a report from GMA News, Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Mark Villar said the “mega-quarantine facility” is 80% ready. Tomorrow April 29, will be their final inspection.
“May mga tatapusin today, at bukas ang final inspection. 80% na siya, electrical works na lang, and installation ng Wi-Fi ng Smart,” he said.
According to the report, The DPWH chief said they are hoping that the biggest COVID-19 facility in the country will be fully operational by the weekend. He said it will be manned by doctors and nurses from the Philippine National Police (PNP) and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).
“May mga doctor and nurses rin po from Armed Forces and the police, at kailangan po talaga sila para mabuo ang work force,” said Villar.
The opening ceremony of the 2019 Southeast Asian Games was held at the Philippine Arena. The massive stadium was also featured on Discovery Channel last December 2013.
