First, let’s identify their similarities and they are the following:

  • green outer color
  • sweet and juicy
  • black seeds
  • high water content

The canary yellow watermelon, however, is much sweeter than that of the red one for it has a hint of honey flavor. The reason behind the color difference is because the red contains a phytonutrient called Lycopene, the same antioxidants which makes the tomatoes red.

This is linked to improving heart and prostate health and prevent certain types of cancer. Excessive consumption might lead to diarrhea, nausea, and among others.

And the color yellow is because it lacks in Lycopene and what it has is beta-carotene which is the same chemical content that gives the carrots its shade. This is high in heart-healthy minerals magnesium, iron, calcium, phosphorus, and potassium.

According to Organic Facts, a recent research showed that the nutritional contents of a yellow watermelon include high levels of vitamin A and vitamin C, less than 50 calories in a one-cup serving, and moderate amounts of potassium and sodium.
