USGS Records 6.4 Magnitude Earthquake in Japan East Coast Early Monday
JAPAN EAST COAST – A 6.4 magnitude earthquake hit Japan’s coast early Monday according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).
One of the natural calamities that can hardly be predicted is the earthquake. This natural occurrence, the movements of plates, may occur anytime and anywhere.
The effects of earthquake may depend on its intensity and magnitude. Also, its epicenter. Quakes that take place near bodies of water may have the tendency to ignite a tsunami, another risky natural incident that can really take multiple lives.
Strong earthquakes may result to the destruction of properties and the loss of lives. Meanwhile, there are also those that can hardly be felt.
Recently, the United States Geological Survey or more commonly called as USGS recorded an earthquake in Japan East Coast. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, USGS recorded a 6.4 magnitude quake early Monday.
The said quake was located less than fifty (50) kilometers off Miyagi prefecture coast. According to USGS, no tsunami warning was released and the risk of casualties and damages from the quake is low.
Based on the report, in another quake-recording agency, the Japan Meteorological Agency recorded the quake with 6.1 magnitude. It was 5:30 in the morning when it struct off Japan East Coast.
Japan is one of the countries lying in the Pacific Ring of Fire. Countries in the said part of the globe are more prone to quakes.
