According to Panay News, the mufflers that were confiscated through series of operations along the national highway and major roads in the area are crushed via a road roller-compactor.

Mayor Alfredo Marañon III said that this is a part of police operations enhancement in Sagay and implementation of the city ordinance. Marañon also led the ceremonial destruction with Vice Mayor Narciso Javelosa Jr. and the city police chief Antonio Benitez.

The confiscated mufflers came from motorists coming from Bacolod, Escalante, Cadiz, and Sagay, and Toboso town.

This is in lieu of the continued implementation of City Ordinance No. 2015-002 or “An Ordinance Regulating the Operation of Motor Vehicles with Modified Mufflers within the City of Sagay and Prescribing Penalties Thereof” and the Enhanced Managing Police Operation Program under the Philippine National Police Patrol Plan 2030.

Benites said that this is also in line to maintaining peace and order in the city, further urging all motorists to always follow traffic rules for your safety and the safety of all road users.

For Marañon, he said that illegal open pipe muffles contribute to the noise pollution in the community and there is a necessity to minimize it to maintain road safety and order.

As per the report, the ordinance states that, violators will be charged a fine from ₱500 to ₱5,000 and confiscation of the motor vehicle.

He also urged locals to report to the authorities if there are any motorists around the city who continue in using it.
