Residents of Occidental Mindoro Evacuated Due To Effects of Bagyong Hanna

Hundreds of residents in Occidental Mindoro have already evacuated to different evacuation centers due to the effects of Bagyong Hanna.

Over the past few days, Tropical Storm Hanna continues to affect the weather condition over some parts of the country prompting several areas to declare class suspensions.

The state weather bureau PAGASA reported that Hanna was last spotted at 795 kilometers east of Calayan, Cagayan with maximum sustained winds of 95 kilometers per hour and gustiness of up to 115 kph.

The tropical storm is expected to bring heavy rains and strong winds affecting the province of Batanes and Occidental Mindoro.

On Tuesday afternoon (August 6, 2019), the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office in Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) reported that around 427 residents have already proceeded to different evacuation centers.

DRRMO said that the residents from the towns of Mamburao, Paluan, Lubang Island, Sablayan, and Abra de Ilog evacuated due to the strong winds and floodwaters that damaged their homes.

The floodwater in San Jose, Occidental Mindoro rose to 3.2 feet affecting several villages including Batasan, Camburay, Magbay, Mabini, Mangarin, and Monte Claro.

Meanwhile, the Caguray River in Magsaysay has also overflowed prompting the residents to leave the area.
