Risa Hontiveros’ Announces Her Anti-Catcalling Measure Finally Signed Into Law
RISA HONTIVEROS – Senator Risa Hontiveros’ Anti-catcalling measure has been passed into law.
Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros is the principal author of the ‘Safe Streets and Public Spaces Act of 2017’ or the ‘Anti-catcalling‘ measure.
It seeks to penalize anyone who is catcalling, cursing, leering, wolf-whistling groping, and persistent request of name or contact details.
Based on a report from Senate.com. Risa Hontiveros wanted to all the people especially the females and the LGBT community to be safe in the streets.
“At a time when sexism and misogyny seem to be the new normal, this is an important victory for all women and LGBT persons.”
“This is a major push back against street-based sexual harassment and the culture of sexism in the country. With this measure, we will reclaim the streets from sexual harassers and make them safe for all,” said Hontiveros.
According to the report, the senator is hopeful that her bill will change the bad behaviors of some Filipinos.
“Through this measure, we hope to progressively change the people’s language habits, prevent different forms of gender-based harassment and convince the public of the positive effects of gender-sensitive expression,” said Hontiveros.
Today, May 29, 2019, Sen. Riza Honticeros took to the social media to announce that her ‘Safe Streets & Public Spaces Act or Anti-catcalling measure has been passed into law.
