Another Cyber Libel Case Filed Against Kiko Barzaga
KIKO BARZAGA – Former Cavite Representative Kiko Barzaga has once again found himself at the center of controversy after being charged with cyber libel in connection with a widely circulated social media post.
Former Cavite 4th District Representative Kiko Barzaga is once again facing a cyber libel complaint after the Office of the City Prosecutor of Manila formally filed charges against him over a Facebook post published in January 2026.
The complaint was submitted before the Manila Regional Trial Court following allegations that Barzaga posted statements on his Facebook page linking several members of the National Unity Party (NUP) to the alleged acceptance of bribes. The post also specifically mentioned Manila 2nd District Representative Rolando Valeriano.
According to court documents, the prosecution argued that the social media post reached a wide audience because Barzaga’s official Facebook page has approximately 1.9 million followers. Prosecutors also noted that the content quickly spread online after it was shared and republished by various online news platforms, further increasing its public exposure.
As a result, Barzaga has been charged with violating the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 in relation to Articles 353 and 355 of the Revised Penal Code, which define libel and the corresponding penalties for the offense.
The Office of the City Prosecutor also recommended a bail amount of ₱10,000, allowing the former lawmaker to seek temporary release while the case is being heard before the court.
Barzaga previously served as the representative of Cavite’s 4th District before he was removed from office.
As of this writing, the camp of the former congressman has yet to release an official statement regarding the newly filed cyber libel complaint.
The latest legal action comes only a few months after Barzaga was also confronted with a cyber libel case in April. That earlier complaint was filed by business tycoon Enrique Razon, marking another legal challenge involving the former legislator.
With another cyber libel case now pending before the courts, attention is expected to focus on how the proceedings will unfold and whether Barzaga’s camp will respond to the allegations in the coming days. The case also highlights the legal consequences that may arise from statements published on social media, particularly those that allegedly damage the reputation of identified individuals.
