Luzon Grid Placed by NGCP Under Red Alert
The National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) has raised a red alert status over the Luzon Grid for already 3 straight days.
Over the past few days, Luzon Grid has been placed under red alert status warning the Filipino people of rotating power interruptions in the affected areas.
The red alert warning has been raised after the expected peak demand in Luzon exceeds its available capacity and reserve.
On Friday (April 12, 2019), NGCP still placed Luzon Grid again under red alert status for the third straight day.
The exceeding peak demand would outstrip the available generating capacity within a 13-hour period this time.
The 13-hour red alert would start at 9:00 am up to 10:00 pm, which is the worst condition over the past two weeks.
Yesterday, the 150-megawatt Unit 2 of SMC Consolidated Power Corp. in Limay, Bataan had a forced outage because of the suspected boiler leak.
Previously, the Department of Energy (DOE) ensured the power consumers that there is enough supply of electricity despite the grid condition.
