Rappler’s Maria Ressa Arrested in Manila Airport, Posts Bail For 7th Time

MARIA RESSA – Rappler’s CEO Maria Ressa was arrested upon arrival at NAIA and posted bail for the seventh time.

On March 29, Rappler Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Maria Ressa was arrested at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA)

The executive editor was charged for violating the anti-dummy law. She and her lawyer were taken by a police car.

Based on a report from CNN, the arrest warrant of Maria Ressa was issued by the Pasig Regional Trial Court.

Rappler’s CEO and her lawyer were brought to the headquarters in Pasig City where she has undergone booking procedure.

Maria Ressa then drive to the Pasig Regional Trial Court to post a bail of P90,000.

She has 11 complaints and cases, this is her 7th time to post bail. “This shows you how hard it is to be a journalist today,” she said.

The former executives of Rappler have posted bail last Wednesday but Ressa wasn’t able to post for bail because she was in the US.

According to the report, Prosecutor Randy Esteban stated the executives of Rappler were charged with the following because they let foreign companies intervene in their online news website company.

The lawyer of Maria Ressa, Francis Lim, gave a statement about the arrest of his client.

“Let it be crystal clear that these acts of harassment will not deter our clients from doing their duty as journalists. We believe in the rule of law and it is our fervent hope that we will prevail in the end,” said Lim.
