Several Filipino Personalities Reacts on Maria Ressa’s Arrest

MARIA RESSA – Several Filipino personalities reacted on the arrest of Maria Ressa yesterday.

Following a previous article, filed a cyber-libel case to Chief Executive Officer of Rappler Maria Ressa and former reporter Reynaldo Santos.

This is due to the complaint of the businessman Wilfredo Keng about the article “CJ using SUVs of controversial businessman”.

In a report, Maria Ressa’s arrest warrant was served yesterday and was brought to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) regarding the article that was published on the website last 2012.

The reporter stated that she should not be detained because they were “just telling the story of what’s happening”.

Maria Ressa posted bail after spending the night at the NBI. She posted bail of P100,000 at the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 48.

Meanwhile, several Filipino broadcasters, actors and politicians gave their opinion about the prominent reporter’s arrest. They stated that is was a form of “harassment” to the press.

Personalities who reacted include Karen Davila, Ces Oreña-Drilon, Juan Miguel Severo, Chai Fonacier, Kiko Pangilinan, and Vice President Leni Robredo.

All of these personalities took to social media to express their thoughts about the arrest of Maria Ressa.

Karen Davila said the government should focus more on real criminals and not the media while Ces stated that she sided with Ressa.

Actors Juan Miguel Severo and Chai Fonacier states that he’s with Ressa’s aim to reveal the truth and the government’s attack on press freedom.

Senator Kiko Pangilinan also aired his thoughts about the arrest of Maria Ressa yesterday.

Vice President Leni Robredo is also against the arrestment of the Rappler CEO.
