Policemen Using Guns Illegally Will Face Sanctions And Immediate Dismissal

POLICEMEN – Several policemen were caught for illegal discharge of firearms by the Philippine National Police (PNP) during holiday season.

The PNP earlier advised the public to report policemen or other uniformed personnel who uses their guns illegally. PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana said that those who were caught will be sanctioned and relieved from their duties.

This was also echoed by PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde, who warned the police that
severe administrative sanctions would be imposed on police personnel who would illegally use their service firearms.

The PNP will also forego the sealing of gun muzzles on police firearms as they are confident that the police will impose self-discipline.

That aside, according to Philstar, Durana said that two police officers were caught using their firearms illegally in Metro Manila. There was another officer who was arrested in the Ilocos region and one caught in the Caraga region.

The names of the officers and the details, including the dates and places where the incidents occurred, are not yet revealed by Durana.

Based on the report, there are a total of seven police officers who were arrested as of yesterday (Deccember 30), including two officers from Central Luzon, and one officer in Metro Manila

From December 16 to 30, there are a total of nineteen officers arrested for illegal discharge of firearms as of now. The other violators were
six civilians, two government officials, two security guards, a member of another law enforcement agency and a soldier.

Meanwhile, eight individuals were arrested for illegal possession, use and sale of banned firecrackers during the same period.
