Philippine National Police Advises Public To Report Incidents Of Indiscriminate Firing As New Year Approaches

NEW YEAR – There are few days left until New Year. With that, the Philippine National Police(PNP) urges the public to report cases of indiscriminate firing.

PNP spokesperson Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana said that the policemen or other uniformed personnel who are involved in cases involving an illegal discharge of guns will be sanctioned and relieved from their duties.

Durana further advised the people to let authorities know if they ever spot someone who fires their guns.

According to GMA News, the PNP will still forego sealing of gun muzzle on police firearms like they did for the past two years since the Duterte administration. Durana explained that the tape is not really a deterrent as there are policemen that will surely use their firearms.

Durana is confident that the police will impose self-discipline when it comes to using their firearms during the holiday season. He further said that if they ever did fire, it may cause the lives of others, so any sensible police officer will not do that especially with their fears that one single bullet can kill a person.

As per the report, a few cops were involved in recent illegal discharge of firearms incidents. Durana further said that the PNP will be on full alert especially during the New Year celebrations. The 911 national emergency hotline, on the other hand will be open 24/7 to receive reports.

Durana finally said that it’s good that most people are now owning smartphones, which they can use to report any policemen who will violate the rules and regulations that the PNP are currently imiposing as part of their cleaning program.
