PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson Reacts On Malacañang Press Corps’ Statement On Her Proposal To Place ‘Rappler’ Under Her Office

The PCOO Asec. Mocha Uson has reacted on the statement issued by Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) about her proposal to place Rappler under her office.

Previously, the Presidential Communications Operation Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson has sent a request to PCOO Secretary Martin Andanar to expel the news site “Rappler” from MPC and place it under her office.

Uson was asking to reclassify Rappler as social media for it doesn’t have counterpart print or broadcast arm and it was only an online publication.

However, the news site reacts and called Uson’s request and as misinformed saying that Rappler is an independent media company, which was not under the jurisdiction of the government.

The Malacañang Press Corps has also issued a statement regarding Mocha Uson’s proposal to place ‘Rappler’ under her office.

Here is the full statement from MPC:

“The Malacañang Press Corps (MPC) is an independent organization of journalists from various news organizations assigned to regularly cover the Philippine President and Malacañang events.

The MPC and its affairs, governed by by-laws in accordance with the constitutional provision on press freedom, is not in any way under the control and supervision of the Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) or any government agency.

The MPC deplores any attempt to curtail press freedom and will continue to ensure a strong free press, keep the public informed, and the government in check.”
